Trump Banned Immigrants, So Protestors Gather
President Donald Trump continues to receive bad press for his proposal to ban immigrants from America. The Liberal-media calls it a “Muslim Ban,” despite the fact that there are forty other predominantly Muslim countries not on the document and the ones listed were identified as terror threats by Obama.
Despite these truths, it’s also important for Americans to understand that the past six presidents have used an executive power to bar different types of immigrants over the years, including President Barack Obama and President Bill Clinton.
So why protest Trump?
A President’s Right To Ban Dangerous Immigrants
The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 reads:
“Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non-immigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”
President Barack Obama used this order six times during his eight years in office. Obama barred “anyone under a UN travel ban; anyone who violates any of 29 executive orders regarding transactions with terrorists, those who undermine the democratic process in specific countries, or transnational criminal organizations.”
President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton both used the order six times to ban those they felt would harm the country as well. Even Jimmy Carter used the executive power once for “all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States.”
So why protest Trump?
A.C.L.U. Helped Organized “Organic” Protests
Perhaps Trump is being protested because the protests were scheduled and mobilized rather than organic. The A.C.L.U. Immigrant Rights Project contacted thousands of lawyers two days before the order was even signed to prepare for the big event.
The New York Times reported certain airport restaurants were “entirely taken over by attorneys.” So when thousands of people are called to an event, and then a protest begins, it’s a little like chumming the waters and then calling an area shark infested.
Trump will continue to be preyed upon for his actions, but he’s hardly the first to do many of these strategic moves.
So are these protests really organic or scheduled by opportunists?
