Rex Tillerson: “Hi, I’m The New Guy…
Early Thursday morning, before Donald Trump met with the Harley Davidson CEO on the South Lawn, he likely watched Rex Tillerson give his first speech as the new Secretary of State.
The former Exxon CEO revealed that before he received the call from Trump, he assumed that he would “be entering retirement this spring after four decades of business experience.”
Tillerson’s Story Is Touching And Family-Oriented
Here’s one of the many lines from his speech that got a standing ovation:
“Renda and I were ready to head off to the ranch and enjoy our grandchildren,” continued the new Secretary of State. “But when I came back from my first meeting with President Trump and he asked me to do this, Renda said, “You didn’t know it but you’ve been in a 41-year training program for this job.”
Delaying Gratification For The Greater Good
Similar to Donald Trump, Rex Tillerson was certainly at a place where he didn’t need to take on another journey for income or otherwise, but he felt a “calling” for lack of a better term.
Together, Tillerson and his wife Renda agreed that retirement would have to wait. They needed to answer Trump’s calling to help the new President prepare to fix the many problems happening in America.
“I’m on the job,” said Tillerson. “I’m the new guy…”
